Your Average Bear - UI/UX

  • Designed graphical user interface elements in line with the overarching style of the game, including menus, buttons, and other various game elements

  • Worked closely with other artists to maintain stylistic consistency across assets

  • All graphics created using Procreate, Adobe Photoshop, and Adobe Illustrator, for use in Unreal Engine

Pause and Option menus/buttons

For these menu sets, I wanted to emulate the bulletin boards that can be found at campsites, typically filled with various notices, posters, etc. I had a lot of fun playing around with different concepts of the buttons, as well as hiding small easter eggs and team jokes into the design. This ended up being one of my favorite projects throughout development.

“UBearEats” Phone Quest Tracker

We needed something that allowed the player to track the progress of their food delivery quests, but nothing too intrusive. We initially joked around with this concept being a parody of UberEats, called “UBearEats,” and it stuck! Giving the bear a phone to track his orders played perfectly into the comical sense of the game, while allowing the players a tool to keep an eye on their progress. The player can open/close the phone at their leisure, get hints at where each quest item is if they get stuck, and see a reminder where to find the specific forest animal, should they forget.

Enemy Information Boards

These boards were created to help players distinguish between the three different enemy types and better understand their abilities. Designed to follow a similar bulletin board-style to the pause and option menus, the player can refresh their knowledge by interacting with several bulletin boards scattered throughout the campsite.

Animal Crossing-Inspired UI Project

As part of a final project for a class, I was tasked to add a spin to an existing game and create UI icons for it. I chose to add a magical twist to Nintendo’s Animal Crossing: New Horizons, in which the player can battle other villagers/players using magical items, recipes and special attacks, add buff effects to their island for protection, and change their daily luck.
